Tornado...

On the day of the tornado, the kids and I went to my parent's house to hunker down in their basement.

With a lot of giant cats.

We ate Arby's by candlelight while listening to very ominous reports on the weather radio.

Trying to distract the kids (and myself) from being scared, we played Go Fish and Mouse Trap until the all clear was given.

Thankfully, our neighborhood, as well as my parent's, was perfectly fine. Like much of the area, our house had eerie debris from distant homes scattered around the yard. Every time I see a piece of insulation or a shingle I think of those destroyed homes and their occupants with sadness; I remember the fear we felt during those few hours when it didn't seem to matter that you were in a basement or not; and I am so grateful that we are all safe and that the tornado passed us by.

With power out for awhile, Stephen made things more fun by taking the kids for their first campout way out in the garden (outside the back door). They were crazy excited and had a blast!

For us, life is back to normal...power on, house the same, everyone where they should be. For others, the tornado has changed so much, and taken so much. We are all trying to do what we can to help, from donating food and prom dresses, to hopefully going out to help with our hands very soon.
