We began our beautiful, but windy Saturday morning by heading to the first day of Pepper Place Farmer's Market downtown to meet Stephen's awesome cousins etc. Parents were a little sluggish, children a little cranky, everybody a little chilly, but moods and temperatures improved as we changed course to lunch at Urban Standard and poking around at What's on 2nd. With a quick stop at home for some promised caramel cake, and a quick errand run, all the Ingrams began a spontaneous yard work session. In just a few hours, we conquered a lot! Everyone pitched in:
Stephen weeded, tilled and planted one raised garden bed, cut the grass, raked up the leaves, cleaned off porches and sidewalks with the leaf blower.
I weeded another garden bed, trimmed trees and bushes, raked leaves, scrubbed the swing, picked up sticks, and worked with the compost.
Mary Clare raked and piled leaves in the wagon, pulled it to the compost bin and scooped it all in, dug in the dirt, pulled up some weeds, raked some leaves, picked up sticks, sprayed the swing (and Patrick) and wound the hose.
Patrick dug in the dirt, played with worms and bugs, raked the grass (?), picked up sticks, sprayed the swing, and "cooked" with birdseed.
Then at the end, we all spread grass seed in our patchy little yard, and finished with ice cream from the ice cream truck! Whew! What a day!
